Tennis: Upper Body Preparation

DESCRIPTION

  • Player holds light dumbbells in both hands.
  • Player starts with arms in front of the body, elbows slightly bent.
  • Player moves both arms to the side and back up to the full stretch of the chest and recovers to the starting position.

COACHING POINTS

  • At the net, the lower body stabilises the movement but the upper body is responsible for the final control of the shot.
  • It is important to work on upper body strength to be able to deal with all variety of balls.
  • In this drill, the player is strengthening the shoulders and chest by performing a simple exercise with external load.
